Building permits in January 2013 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 925,000, up 1.8 percent from the revised December rate and up 35.2 percent from January 2012. Housing starts in January 2013 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 890,000, down 8.5 percent from the revised December estimate but up 23.6 percent from January 2012.
